Afternoon Tea at 1029 Cafe

When Cera's mom gave her a gift card for Afternoon Tea at a newly open cafe in central Richmond, we couldn't help it to try it out! The cafe is very modern and located in a very secluded area. The decor was super nice, however, the place was VERY empty!

Some sort of Herbal/Floral Tea. Not sure what tea exactly... Their special of the day.
The "three" tier of sweets and savories.. To be honest..
it's more like a two tier...
Top Tier: Cheesecake, Blueberry Mousse Cake and
Chocolate Mousse Cake
Middle Tier: Blueberry Mousse Cake and
Chocolate Mousse Cake, Mango Mousse Cake
and Green Tea Mousse Cake
Bottom Tier: Veggie Sandwiches
Mango Mousse Cake
Lavender/Blueberry Mousse Cake
Chocolate Mousse Cake
Green Tea Mousse Cake (notice how repetitive everything is?)
Cheese Cake
The Verdict
Since this is a mandarin - Chinese establishment, it was we had quite a difficult time communicating with the waitress. Wish didn't know how speak mandarin and Cera's mando skills are close to non-existent. LOL. Usually, when we go out for Afternoon tea, the server would introduce the menu items to us, but seeing as the server had limited English, we weren't able to get a comprehensive explanation . We actually guessed what we are eating and we came to similar conclusions! However, since the menu was really very simple, it wasn't too hard!

The main downside to this afternoon tea was the menu selection. Evidently, the menu was VERY basic, and almost all the sweets were mini mousse cakes. While we both enjoy mini mousse cakes, this much was a bit... well, much. We wish there was more variety in their Afternoon tea. The tea sandwiches were also mediocre. However, we also know that when we visited this restaurant, the Afternoon tea was still a brand new item on their menu (they usually serve cafe food, sandwiches, simple Chinese dishes and coffee). Hopefully, they have improved it by now!

Do we recommend this location?
NO, Not Really. For $27/per person, there are much better Afternoon Tea places to visit. In fact, more and more are popping up around the lower mainland that it is getting hard to keep up! However, if you're like us, and you want to try every Afternoon Tea place available, then please note that a reservation is required. One good thing about this establishment is that it is located right behind the Richmond Costco, so if you ever feel like afternoon tea after shopping, there is something available for you.

Adorabelle was such a cute little tea room! The place has a warm, cozy and girly feel to it. Definitely a place that must be revisited! The building used to be a old courtroom in the historic village from our local city.

The Menu of Adorabelle Tea Room
Adorabelle's choice of tea!
Wish chose the Sakura Green Tea while Cera chose the Chamomile Blend.
The set up of the teacup. Super cute, isn't it?
The napkin is folded like a rose!
Teacup, Teapot, and the cute Honey cube =)
The 3-tiers of treats!
Since there wasn't enough room on the their for 3 people,
Wish got a 3-tiered tray to herself!
Bottom tier: Tea Sandwiches
 Cucumber Sandwich
Egg Salad Sandwich
Chicken Salad Sandwich
Roast Pepper Sandwich
Top tier:
Mini Chocolate Cake
Blueberry Meringue
Poppyseed Shortbread Cookie
Mini Cupcake
Cream-filled Strawberry

Home made berry jam and sweet Devonshire cream for the scones

And finally, the decor of the Tea Room:
This is the decor on top of our table!
The other side has a painting view of the Eiffel Tower at night!
The very cute receptionist area of Adorabelle Tea Room and Gift Shop
The cute accessory products that Adorabelle Tea Room and Gift Shops.
=)
Cute aprons, so Lolita-like.

The Verdict:
Afternoon tea at Adorabelle was both charming and quaint. The napkin roses were a nice touch and romantic french music in the background added to the ambiance. We loved that they offered little honey blocks on top of regular sugar! Cera preferred the savories over the sweets but we both agreed that the fresh-baked, still hot scones were delicious! The only downside of this experience was that our afternoon tea was cut short after an hour as they were fully booked that day and needed to set the tables for the next service. We usually spend at least an hour and a half, to two hours at tea so we were sad about our short teatime =(. Otherwise, at $23 for adults, and $16 for children, Adorabelle is a great place for afternoon tea! Be sure to check out Steveston Village while you're there!
